Reflection - On Blog

Write about your process from the original walk around CA campus to your final creation.

-Explain where you got the most information
-where you got stuck or frustrated
-how did your partner artist help you
-if your final creation was what you set out to do originally
-Include your thoughts about your critique
-if you made the second iteration of your creation, what would you change?
(minimum 100 words)

I got the most information from the nature walk. During this walk I had time to reflect on what I wanted to make and focus on. I ended up realizing I wanted to highlight pops of color as well as a natural look. I got stuck/ frustrated when it came time to choose what to make. At first I thought I would want to make a pair of boots. Then I realized it didn't quite fully represent what I wanted. I then thought I would do a purse. I realized that I liked the shape of a purse and something you could walk around with but there wasn't enough nature to it. Thats when I added the flowers and turned it into a flower basket. I'm not sure what you mean by partner artist. However, the artist I choose for inspiration helped me because he focused on nature with filters on it that made somethings pop. It also showed me how I didn't want my flower basket to have to many cool colors. As I mentioned before my final creation was not what I originally had planned. I transitioned from a shoe to a purse to a flower basket. My thoughts on my critique are simple. I think that I got great advice and that I should definitely change the shaping a little bit.

If I were to make a second version of my basket I would make a few changes. Starting with the shape of the basket. I would transition it to something made out of a more durable material allowing me to have a shape that wasn't floppy. Looking at the handle made me realize I would also want it to seem more like one piece than many glued together. I want it to look this way because it gives a more seamless look to the basket. That's what I was trying to go for so that the flowers could pop. Instead I felt like the eye was drawn to the choppy and raggy parts of my basket. I would also change the exterior of the basket. I think I would transition away from cloth and into a woven like basket. This gives it a more traditional look. I definitely used cloth because I was planning on making a purse. So to change it up I could change the structure, exterior material, and interior material.
